Happy Almost Turkey Day

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I am actually quite excited and looking forward to it. The tradition for us over the last few years has become one of hosting at our home, usually with my Mom and stepfather and almost always with our elderly neighbor lady from next door. I enjoy cooking a traditional meal and always try to plan the “perfect” meal.

For my perfect feast this year I am planning to cook a turkey and serve it with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberries (both fresh homemade ones and then jellied ones from the can for my Mom!), some sort of squash dish, corn, and rolls. I also will be serving pumpkin pie made with fresh pumpkin. I was going to try my hand at homemade rolls this year, but I just don’t have the time for it. Plus, I don’t want to be experimenting with anything that could foul up the perfect meal tradition! :)

But, it really isn’t the food that makes Thanksgiving a perfect holiday. It’s so much more than the food. It’s the people, the company, the conversation…the overall atmosphere. I think that’s what I really like about tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
