PictureMe Portrait Studios – Make memories and save on family portraits at your local Walmart

by on April 2, 2012 in Reviews

Last month my family had the opportunity get pictures taken at a PictureMe portait studio, inside one of our local Walmart stores (Supercenter Store #1310). I had never been to a PictureMe studio, and this was the first time we’d had our pictures taken as a family of four.

A few months ago I was sorting all of our digital pictures (something I often get behind on) and making some photo books when I realized we only had one or two pictures of our whole family since my son was born last year. The two pictures we had were okay, but nothing great.

We had professional photos made when my daughter was 9 months old, and that was the last time. She’s two now, and her brother is 10 months old, so we figured it was about time!

We live at least 500 miles from our nearest family members, so we always have a lot of people to send pictures to. I knew this photo shoot would be perfect for updating all our relatives with new pictures for their albums. We also like to send updated pictures to our children’s birth parents whenever we can, and we know they will love these!

I was pretty pleased with the experience at PictureMe. You can see pictures from our trip over in my Google+ album

I had called for our appointment the day before our shoot and was pleased that they got us in right away. You don’t have to have an appointment, but with two little kids I wanted to make sure naps were taken and we had ample time to get ready. I tried to coordinate our family’s clothes in a “springy” way, and after getting everyone all prettied up that morning…we were off to Walmart!

My Mom was in town, so we took a variety of photos at the studio. We got pictures of Hubby and me alone, the four of us in our family, each of the kids separately, the kids together, the kids with Grandma, and then Grandma alone.

The whole shoot took a little over an hour. Part of that was due to the fact that my daughter is going through a phase where cameras actually make her frown. Add a 10 month old baby to the mix, and photographing our family can be quite a challenge! Our photographer, Ashley, did a GREAT job and was very prepared to deal with our young family. She had props and was willing to do whatever it took to get the shot, including taking as many shots as we wanted until it was right.

You can see more pictures from our shoot over in my Google+ album.

Once we got the pictures out of the way, we sat down and started choosing packages and pictures. PictureMe has a variety of package options from small to large, and we chose a package called the Sheet Lovers package, which gave us 24 “sheets” of pictures plus three 10×13 pictures. You can mix and match those sheets with any shots you want from the photo shoot.

We got a TON of pictures, and I can’t wait to get them back and start dividing them up to send to people!

A “sheet” of pictures can be any of the following:

  • one 8×10
  • two 5×7
  • four 3.5×5
  • a combo sheet with one 5×7 and 4 wallets
  • eight wallets

Since the kids have three sets of grandparents and three living great-grandparents and we wanted photos for us plus aunts, uncles, God parents, etc…we were thrilled with how many pictures we got in our package. My Mom even got to choose a few sheets just for herself!

Normally I don’t like pictures as large as the 10×13 size, but we got three of them with our package. We chose to get one of our whole family, and then make collages out of the other two. They can make collages in any size, but the large size is really nice! I can’t wait to see them!

This is one of the collages we got. This was actually two different pictures that they put together to make it look like the kids were in the same shot. Super cute!

In the end we got the following pictures in our order:

  • three 10×13
  • three 8×10
  • twenty one 5×7
  • fifty two wallets
  • sixteen 3.5×5

That seems like a TON, and it is…but that’s also for eight different poses!!

The pictures took about 2 weeks to come back, but with our package we were able to come home with a CD of all the shots in our photo shoot. Not just the ones we ordered, but ALL the shots, including sample collages and special effect pictures she showed us.

But you know what the best part is? They give you a waiver form so you can share, print and do anything you want with the pictures on the CD. So, if you get your package back and want more of something, you can use any photo printing service to make more! You also have instant access to the photos on their website, too.

PictureMe has promotional coupons on their site, and always has package specials, too. You can call ahead to get an appointment like we did, but they also take walk-in appointments, too. Just don’t get behind a big family photo shoot like ours! :)

Professional pictures might seem like a luxury, but capturing your children in pictures while they are young is so important! Not only does it create wonderful gifts for you to give to family members now, but they will become treasured memories in the future.

I’d recommend PictureMe to anyone wanting to get the most bang for their buck when it comes to family portraits. I am sad to report though that the PictureMe studio at the South Walmart here in Terre Haute is closing in about one month. They do have a studio in Vincennes and also in Effingham, or you can click here to find a studio near you.

Have you ever used PictureMe?
